Resumo:
A polynomial in non commuting variables is a central polynomial for an algebra A
if, when evaluated in A, takes only values in the center of A. In case it takes only
the zero value it is called a polynomial identity of A.
For a given algebra A these polynomials have a structure of a vector space and
even if one can determine some of these polynomials, it is in general a difficult problem
to determine even the dimension of this space in a fixed number of variables.
In order to study these objects one applies asymptotic methods related to the
representation theory of the symmetric group.
